10 DU students get NEF scholarship

Ten meritorious students of Biological Sciences faculty and Earth and Environmental Sciences faculty of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded “Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF), Japan scholarship” on Monday (05 Feb) for their outstanding academic results.

DU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman distributed the awards among the students of different departments under the two faculties as chief guest at a function at the VC’s lounge of the university.

The recipients of NEF Scholarship are Tanbir Ahmad of Soil, Water and Environment department; Mousumi, Tajrin Jahan Tarin and Nabamita Sarkar of Botany department ; Maria Sultana Moly and Sanjida Samad Snigdha of Zoology department ; Shah Md Minhajul Abedin of Microbiology department; Fahmida Sultana of Fisheries department ; Orna Rahman Onny of Geography and Environment department and Kamrunnahar Kanak of Oceanography department.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman urged the students to equip themselves with moral values. He also called upon the students to maintain strong ties among the family members to make themselves good human being.

The VC said students have to play pioneering role for making the environment clean and tidy.

Dean of Biological Sciences faculty Professor Dr M Imdadul Hoque, Dean of Earth and Environmental Sciences faculty Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, DU Representative of NEF Scholarship Committee Professor Dr Mohammad Zabed Hossain, among others, were present on the occasion.
