136 officials promoted to JS

Desk Report |

The government has promoted 136 deputy secretaries, including 12 deputy commissioners, to the rank of joint secretary, much beyond the approved posts in the organogram for civil bureaucrats.

The public administration ministry issued a gazette notification which would take effect on Sunday.

Most of the newly promoted officials were made officers on special duty at the ministry while 12 of them who were working as DCs were instantly given postings to various ministries, according to the order.

Most of the newly promoted joint secretaries belong to the 17th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service with their joining in 1998, said a senior official of the ministry concerned.

There were already 863 joint secretaries against 350 sanctioned posts in the structure, according to official statistics updated on Sunday.

Last year on September 20, the government promoted 154 deputy secretaries to the rank of joint secretary.
