3 held for cheating 350 BCS examinees of RU

Police on Thursday arrested a computer shop owner and two others in Rajshahi on charge of cheating more than 350 Bangladesh Civil Service examinees of Rajshahi University. The prime accused Mostofa Ahmed Mamun owns Spondon Computer at Rajshahi University Transport Market while the others were identified as one Arif Hossain and Rafiqul Islam. 

According to some victims talked with the New Age, earlier they filled in the 40th BCS online form from Mamun’s shop and paid him exam fees Tk 700. On Thursday after downloading the admit cards, they were shown either visually or physically impaired examinees.

Mentionable, these special BCS candidates pay Tk 100 while general aspirants pay Tk 700 as exam fees. 
The victims said that they paid Mamun Tk 700, but he sent Tk 100 by showing them special candidates while transferring fees over mobile for the confirmation SMS of the applications.

Sujit Ahmed, a Rajshahi University graduate, said when he along with some other victims asked Mamun about the mistake, he misbehaved with them. Later on information, RU proctor Professor Lutfor Rahman along with some assistant proctors and law enforcers went to the shop and took Mamun to the proctor office where in primary investigation he confessed to cheat the examinees. 

They also confiscated Tk 80,000 exam fees in cash from his possession. Later, Mamun was handed over to police. Shahadat Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station, said that no case was filed in this regard.Professor Lutfor said that they contacted with the PSC office over the matter, and PSC asked them to send the list of the victims.

‘They (PSC) assured me that the students would able to fill in their application again by 6:00pm on Thursday’, he said adding that the applicants could pay the fee within 72-hours. The fees would be refunded to the victims from the cash seized from Mamun, the proctor said.However, no comment was available from PSC authorities as PSC Controller of Examination (Cadre) AIM Nesar Uddin did not receive any phone calls.
