Staff correspondent |

Candidates of 34th Bangladesh Civil Services (BCS) exams, who could not secure any cadre position after passing the test, will be recruited as assistant teachers at government-run secondary schools as per a government decision taken today.

The decision came at a meeting held at Public Service Commission (PSC) today in a bid to resolve the crisis of teachers at secondary schools, meeting sources said.

“We will send a letter to the PSC by tomorrow telling them about the number of vacant positions at government-run secondary schools, Ruhi Rahman, joint secretary of the education ministry, told The reporters.

She said: “We hope we will get consent from the PSC to initiate the recruitment process before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.”

At present, 1,744 posts remain vacant in 333 institutions. Fifty percent of the vacancy is expected to be fulfilled by the candidates of the 34th BCS non-cadre candidates.
