A total of 525 poor, meritorious and physically challenged students of Dhaka University (DU) received Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) scholarship today.
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury handed over the cheques of the scholarships among the students as the chief guest at a function at Teacher-Student Center (TSC) auditorium of the university on Saturday (11th November).
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Akhtaruzzaman and Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor SK Sur Chowdhury were present as special guests with DUAA President AK Azad in the chair.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury called upon the young generation to acquire knowledge on modern technologies to cope with the competitive world.
“Our boys and girls have already proved they can compete in the global arena. Now we have to give them all kinds of facilities,” she said.
The speaker said: “To achieve sustainable development goals, we have to make sure that there is no discrimination. All boys and girls should get proper facilities”.
She called people from well-off to come forward to extend their cooperation in such kind of philanthropic activities of providing scholarships to poor but meritorious students.
Under the scholarship, the 525 students will get Taka 30,000 per year.
