8-day Book Fair begins in Rajshahi

An eight-day long ‘Rajshahi Book Fair- 2017’ began here today aimed at encouraging and habituating people to read book.

Jatiya Grantha Kendra under the ministry of cultural affairs arranged the fair on Rajshahi College premises with assistance of district administration and Bangladesh Knowledge and Creative Publishers Samity.

More than 65 publishers have set up stalls in the fair displaying various types of books.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman addressed the inaugural session as the chief guest with Helal Mahmud Sharif, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi, in the chair.

Director of Jatiya Grantha Kenndra Nazrul Islam, Principal of Rajshahi College Habibur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Shalahuddin and Director of Bangladesh Knowledge and Creative Publishers Samity Mijanur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.

Nur-Ur-Rahman said books enlighten people, and easy and creative books are very essential to make reading habit among people.

He underscored the need for reaching books at the doorsteps of the readers to encourage them to read.

The commissioner hoped the fair will contribute a lot to attain the desired goal and sought all-out cooperation from all quarters to make the fair a total success.

The fair will remain open to all from 9 am to 6pm everyday till October 30.

Beside cultural functions will be held there every evening on separate themes during the fair.
