Above 2.85 lakh apply for RU admission test

A total of 2,85,056 students have primarily submitted application for admission test for the first year honours courses in Rajshahi University (RU) under its 2018-19 academic session, an official said.

The aspirants started collecting and submitting the online-based preliminary applications since 12 midnight of September 3 and continued till zero hour of September 12. Admission test will be held on October 22 and 23. Professor Khademul Islam Molla, director of Information and CommunicationCentre at RU, told journalists that a total of 2,85,056 applicants across the

country registered their names for the admission test against around 4,173 (except quota) seats under five units during the preliminary online application process.

He said that this year the university authorities would allow only 32,000 students to sit for the admission tests under each of the five units only based on their GPA results.

The units are – A unit (Arts and Fine arts faculty), B unit (Business Studies and Business Administration Institute), C unit (comprises of Science and Engineering Faculties), D unit (Life and Earth Science Faculties) and E unit (Law and Social Science Faculties and Education and Research Institute).

Professor Khademul said names of eligible students will be published on September 17. The eligible applicants have to pay the registration fees – Tk 
 for A unit, Tk 726 for B unit, Tk 1,254 for C unit, Tk 990 for D unit, and Tk 1,122 for E unit and Education and Research Institute through Dutch Bangla Mobile Banking to collect their admit card, he also added.

According to the ICT centre, 56,407 admission seekers applied under A unit against 941 seats, 37,604 students under B unit against 560 seats, 61,234
students under C unit against 942 seats, 60,293 students under D unit against
612 seats, and 69, 518 students under E unit against 958 seats.

Prof Islam said the students will not get any chance to take part in admission test for second time from the next year. The candidates will have to sit for 100-mark MCQ test with one hour duration.

This year, a total of 4,173 qualified students will get chance for admission in 59 departments and two institutes. Results of the two-day admission tests will be published by November 15 and admission process will start from November 25.

Classes of the newly admitted students will start from January 21 next year, Prof Islam added.
