The Anti-Corruption Commission asked Islamic University in Kushtia to take departmental action against its three teachers for their alleged involvement in teachers’ recruitment forgery.

According to the IU registrar office the three IU teachers are, Associate Professor M Baki Billah Bikul of Bangla department, Professor M Jahangir Hossain of Islamic History and Culture department and Professor Shahadat Hossain Azad of English department.

IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif told New Age on Thursday that they had received a letter from ACC in this regard signed by its deputy director Mahfuza Khatun on October 9.

The commission asked the university authorities to send the report about the three teachers after taking action against them within one month. They had already sent a letter to the commission about the investigation reports of the trio, the registrar said.

IU vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari told New Age that they had already issued show case notices to the teachers. They would send the final report about the trio to the commission after getting response from the teachers, he added.

On July 15, a total of four audio clips containing conversations between several candidates and the two teachers for appointing one of them as a teacher in the Islamic History and Culture department was leaked and went viral on social media.

Later on July 16, the university authorities suspended Professor Azad from the post of provost of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and Assistant Professor Bikul from the post of director of Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium.

The authorities also formed a three-member probe body headed by IU Business Administration faculty dean Professor Arabidu Shaha to investigate into the matter. On October 2, the university authorities issued show case notice to Azad and Bikul.
