Charge framing hearing against ex-OC Moazzem July 10

Desk Report |

The Cyber Tribunal on Sunday fixed July 10 for hearing on charge framing against Moazzem Hossain, former officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Police Station, in a case filed under the Digital Security Act. Dhaka Cyber Tribunal judge Ash-Shams Jaglul Hussein passed the order.

The court also permitted Moazzem Hossain’s lawyer Faruk Hossain to take a copy of the video— for further legal procedure — where the ex-OC interrogated Nusrat Jahan Rafi.

Moazzem Hossain is accused of illegally interrogating Nusrat and recording the episode on his phone. The video was later circulated on the social media.

Supreme Court lawyer Sayedul Haque Sumon on April 15 filed a case under the Digital Security Act against Moazzem for spreading a video on social media on Nusrat’s statement at the police station.

According to the case statement, Moazzem called Nusrat to the police station on March 27 after she filed a case against Maulana Siraj-ud-Doula, principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrassah, for sexually harassing her.

During interrogation at the police station, Moazzem asked her offensive and unpleasant questions over the incident and later spread video of the interrogation on social media.

Moazzem was arrested at Shahbagh in Dhaka on June 16, 20 days after Dhaka Cyber Tribunal issued an arrest warrant against him.

Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrassah in Feni’s Sonagazi, was set on fire on April 6 for refusing to withdraw a case filed against the madrassah principal, Siraj Ud Doula, for sexually harassing her.

She died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10.
