Chinese university to initiate Power Engineering degree in Bangladesh

A Chinese University is going to initiate a 4- year undergraduate Power Engineering course at Stamford University here for the first time in the country to create international standard engineers for the fast growing power sector of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh China Institute of Technology (BCIT) with collaboration of Lanzhou Jiaotong University of China will run the BSc power engineering course at Stamford University.

To this effect, the authorities of Lanzhou Jiaotong University and Stamford University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Siddeswari Campus of Stamford University here Monday (6th November).

President of Lanzhou Jiaotong University Yang Zijiang and Vice Chancellor of Stamford University Prof. Mohammad Ali Naqi inked the MoU on behalf of their respective sides, said a press release.

Under the course, students will study first two years in Dhaka at Stamford University and last two years at Lanzhou Jiaotong University in China for getting first hand practical training with modern lab facilities.

A seven-member Chinese delegation led by Deputy Director General, Foreign Affairs Office of Gansu Province of China Yang Yongang, BCIT Chairman Masum M Moshin, Managing Director Charlie Cha and Director Probir Kumar Barua were present on the occasion.

BCIT Chairman Masum M Moshin said Bangladesh’s power sector is growing at a fast pace but the country doesn’t have much local skilled human resources to meet the demand,” he said.

Keeping this in mind, BCIT Managing Director said they invited Chinese universities to come here and provide their technical support to strengthen the country’s education sector in creating high skilled international standard manpower to sustain the country’s growing development.

The power engineering course following Chinese curriculum, will start at Stamford University from January next year with a number of Chinese professors.
