The authorities of newly established Chittagong and Rajshahi Medical Universities would carry out their activities following the policy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
The decision was taken at a meeting on Monday with Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim in the chair, an official release said. The meeting was held in the conference room of the ministry.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan, Health and Family Welfare Secretary Sirajul Islam, BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan, Vice Chancellor of Chittagong Medical University Prof Dr Ismail Khan and Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi Medical University Prof Dr Masum Habib, among others, attended the meeting.
Nasim said the process for infrastructure development of both Chittagong Medical University and Rajshahi Medical University is underway and administrative works would begin after recruitment of manpower. He said the government is working to set up a Medical University in Sylhet.
A seven-member committee will be formed to make recommendations on how to bring the academic courses of medical colleges affiliated with Dhaka University under BSMMU, the meeting was told.
Currently, about 50 medical colleges, having honours equivalent courses, are now affiliated with Dhaka University.
