A college student was found dead at her house in Hatkaluganj area of the district town on Thursday night.

The deceased was Jhuma Khatun, 19, a Class XII student of Chuadanga Ideal Government Women College and daughter of Abdus Samad.

Quoting locals, police said Jhuma along with her mother Julekha Begum had been living at the house as her father lives in Dhaka in connection with his job.

On Thursday afternoon, Julekha went to a hospital to visit her ailing relative leaving Jhuma alone at the house, said Jahangir Alam, municipality counsellor. When Julekha returned home, she found her daughter lying in a pool of blood.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to local hospital morgue for autopsy.

The vein of the girl’s left hand was found cut off while there was an injury mark on her neck, said Ikramul Haq, sub-inspector at Sadar police station. The reason behind the killing is still not clear, he said.
