College locked for halting teachers’ salary

A group of people locked KB Degree College at Kathaldangi village in Haripur upazila under the district yesterday protesting suspension of two teachers’ salary including the principal.

President of the college governing body advocate Sohrab Hossain dropped names of Principal Jalal Uddin and Assistant Professor Ziaul Hasan from the salary sheet for the month of January, college sources said.

Protesting the incident, a group of people,

mostly supporters of Zialul Hasan, who is also upazila unit general secretary of Awami League, came to the college yesterday and locked the main gate of the college.

Earlier on Thursday, the college teachers started work abstention and refrained from taking classes in protest.

No show cause notice was served before college governing body President Sohrab Hossain dropped names of the two teachers from the salary sheet for January, said college Principal Jalal Uddin.

Ziaul Hasan said MP Dabirul Islam ordered suspension of the two teachers’ salary as a sequel to political rivalry.

He warned that the agitation programme will continue until the problem is resolved.

Contacted, lawmaker Dabirul Islam said he is not aware of the matter, let alone involved.
