College student beaten to death

A college student was beaten to death at Shovarampur Bazar in Sadar upazila on Friday.

The deceased was Solaiman Mia Shimul, 25, son of Ishak Mia of  the town. He was a student of  Government Rajendra College.

Quoting locals, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sadar Police Station Billal Hossain said, “Shimul went to his friend’s house at Shovarampur area at noon on the day. He was picked up by one Khokon’s men while he was playing carom around 7:30pm. They took him to a nearby place and beat him mercilessly, leaving him severely injured. Police rescued Shimul and rushed him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 2:30am yesterday.”

The incident took place after Khokon had a quarrel with another youth who was playing carom there, the SI said, adding that the culprits might have come to pick up someone else but mistakenly picked up Shimul.

Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge  Md Nazim Uddin said they arrested three people in this connection.
