Bangladesh Shikkhak Samity, an apex body of non-government teachers’ in Bangladesh, on Thursday demanded cancellation of digital enlistment of MPO as corruption in the process had gone up.
Now, for enlistment of the MPO requires a teacher to pay Tk 60,000 to Tk 70,000 in bribe in the digital system although it was installed to ease the process as well as to curb corruption in the process, alleged the Samity leaders.
At a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporter’s Unity on Friday (July 14), they also demanded introduction of single-stage process for MPO enlistment instead of current four-stage process.
The enlistment entitles a non-government teacher to get financial benefits from exchequer in the form of Monthly Pay Order (MPO).
In written statement, the Samity president Md Abul Bashar Hawladar said that corruption in MPO enlistment was increased after installation of digital MPO enlistment system in 2015. Digital MPO enlistment process comprises four stages which caused the hike in cumulative bribes.
Now, it requires Tk 60,000 to Tk 70,000 in bribe for each of the enlistments, otherwise, the file is shelved for years, he said.
