DU to hold registered graduate polls in Jan

Staff Reporter |

The election to choose 25 registered graduate representatives of the Dhaka University senate will be held in three phases in January 2018.

The first two phases of voting on January 6 and 13 will take place outside Dhaka, and the last phase will be held inside the university campus, says a press release.

The DU registrar announced the election schedule yesterday.

Results will be declared on January 21.

Earlier, on July 24, several teachers and registered graduates, including Prof Sadeka Halim, Prof AKM Golam Rabbani and Prof Harunur Rashid Khan, filed a petition with the High Court, challenging the convening of a senate meeting for electing a panel of vice chancellor candidates without electing representatives from registered graduates.

The High Court, on October 10, declared illegal a three-member VC panel elected on July 29 and directed the DU authorities to finish the process for constituting a full-fledged senate in six months to elect a panel for appointing its new vice chancellor.
