Education minister to find coaching-loving teachers

Staff Correspondent |

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid has asked the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education to prepare a list of the teachers who are involved in private tutoring at home and coaching centres defying the policy in this regard.

In a note issued on June 28, Nahid also asked to gather and submit information about permanent coaching centres — names, locations, name of the owners or directors and the teachers involved in tutoring at the coaching centres.

The education minister issued the note after being informed that many teachers of schools, colleges and madrassahs across the country were involved in private tutoring at home and different coaching centres defying the Policy to Prevent Private Coaching which was introduced four years ago.

Dignity, honesty, commitment and dedication of teachers have been questioned for a few people involved in the noble profession, Nahid said in his note.

Those people have lost their rights to introduce themselves as teachers as they are involved in corruption, leaking question papers, private tutoring, forcing students to visit coaching centres otherwise harming them in many ways and helping examinees to get answers in the exam hall for money.
