Govt. commits to ensure quality primary education: Speakers

Speakers at a discussion meeting here on Saturday observed that the present government is pledged to ensure qualitative and quantitative primary education for the sake of freeing of the nation from the curse of illiteracy.

They viewed the district and upazila level officials concerned and teachers should discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to supplement the government endeavor effectively.

District Primary Education Office organized the discussion titled “Quality Education, Nation’s Commitment” held at Primary Teachers Training Institute (PTI) playground in Rajshahi city as part of the National Primary Education Week-2016.

To mark the occasion, a daylong education fair and cultural function was organized showcasing various field level education activities. Large number of teachers, officials and others concerned were present at the festival like ceremony.

Director (Policy and Operation) of Directorate of Primary Education Anwarul Haque attended and addressed the meeting as chief guest with Abul Kashem, District Primary Education Officer, in the chair.

Assistant Director Abul Kalam Azad, PTI Superintendent Rejaul Haque, Assistant District Primary Education Officer Saiful Islam, Boalia Thana Education Officer Md Sanaullah, Assistant Thana Education Officer Md Asaduzzaman and teachers Kumkum Yeasmin and Sabiar Rahman also spoke.

Chief Guest Anwarul Haque listed the government’s manifold development activities including development of school infrastructure, ensuring supply of safe drinking water, introduction of uniform education and stipends for disadvantaged children.

He added that the distribution of textbooks to primary school students on the first day of the year and introduction of e-book were among the development activities.

He stressed the need for building a skilled and knowledgeable workforce for implementing the ‘Vision-2021’ as declared by the government aimed at turning Bangladesh into a tech-savvy country.

Mr Haque said there was no alternative to building an educated and skilled workforce to expedite balanced development of the country, besides building an IT-dependent modern nation. In doing so, he said, the government has given special emphasis on education for all.
