Students, teachers and employees of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) celebrated its 14th founding anniversary yesterday with much fanfare and festivity on the campus.

On the occasion, the university authorities have chalked out day-long programmes to celebrate the day. The programmes include hoisting of national and university flags, bringing out procession, holding discussion, innovative projects exhibition, technical papers presentation, inauguration ceremony of newly built dormitory, opening laboratories of different departments, charity football match, reading competition of unfinished biography of Bangabandhu and Karagarer Rosenamcha, doa mahfil and cultural events.

Chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission Professor Abdul Mannan attended the function as the chief guest with Vice-Chancellor of KUET Professor Dr Muhammed Alamgir in the chair.

The key buildings of the university will be decorated with colourful lights on the occasion.

In 1967, the institution was established as Khulna Engineering College on 101 acres of land but the academic activities started on June 3 in 1974, with 120 students under three departments at the special direction of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

However, it was upgraded as Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and was converted to Khulna University of Engineering & Technology on September 1 in 2003.

Now, the university has about 4,922 students and 295 teachers in 18 departments under three faculties, two research institutes and seven dormitories.

Due to Eid vacation, KUET authorities observed the founding anniversary yesterday instead of September 1.
