The observations came at a coordination meeting to discuss and devise ways and means to create safe schools for girls at Sardaha Union Parishad Hall room under Charghat upazila of Rajshahi district yesterday.

The Hunger Project Bangladesh (THPB) organised the discussion in association with ‘Safe School Campaign for Girls Student’ and ‘Her Choice’ Programme.

During his concept paper presentation, Subrata Kumar Paul, area coordinator of THPB, said responsive support from the community, especially public representatives, teachers, parents and members of the civil society, has become a must for creating supportive atmosphere for girls everywhere in the society including schools.

He mentioned that community participation is needed to free the society from the curse of child marriage as it’s a precondition to achieve SDGs.

Flourishing their latent talents together with building them as educated could be vital means of founding Bangladesh as a dignified nation in near future. He said eradicating child marriage is imperative to creating a glorious Bangladesh and building a social resistance against child marriage is important.

The programme intends to involve the community people so that they can play a pivotal role in changing the social mindset on child marriage. It is vital to increase awareness about the negative impacts of early marriage with the help of the mass media.
