Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid laid emphasis on grooming new generation imparting global standard education aiming to cope with the changing world of job markets.

“It is urgent to prepare curriculum incorporating ICT to make the students efficient workforces,” he told the 18th of convocation of a private university on Saturday (03 Feb) in the capital, an official release said.

Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat and Vice Chancellor of AIUB Dr Carmen Z Lamagna, among others, addressed the convocation.

Nahid said the government will take legal action against the private universities which have failed to fulfill their conditions in running the universities under the rules of the Private University Act-2010.

Some of the private universities are yet to fulfill their conditions as per the Act and they have to face legal action after the scheduled timeframe, he added.

Nahid said, “You (students) are the future of the country. So, you have to be good citizens through acquiring knowledge to boost the development process for building a prosperous Bangladesh.”

The minister urged the authorities concerned to ensure congenial academic atmosphere at all educational institutions to make those free from all sorts of terror activities.

“Both public and private universities should be centres of excellence for acquiring knowledge…Without ensuring good academic atmosphere, it is not possible for improving quality of tertiary education,” he added.

The minister said the universities in the country have been rendering valuable services to the society through offering higher education, imparting knowledge to the learners and developing their skill.

The universities have been carrying out research on different fields of society for wellbeing of the people, he added.
