Nahid for limiting expenditure of private varsities’ students

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today urged the authorities of the private universities to remain the students’ expenditures, including tuition and admission fees, at a certain limit.

“I call upon all the private universities to come up with a liberal attitude to remain the educational expenditures of their students, including their admission and tuition fees, at a certain limit considering the socioeconomic reality of the country and its people,” he said.

Nahid came up with the call while addressing the 6th convocation of Uttara University at Bashundhara City in the capital. Speaking as the representative of President Abdul Hamid, he said the country’s universities are playing an important role in creating skilled manpower through practicing creative knowledge and conducting research.

Highlighting the country’s progress in ICT, the education minister said new generation must play a key role in making Bangladesh’s position strong on the ICT highway.

Earlier, Nahid distributed gold medals and certificates among the graduates for their outstanding results.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Dr Abdul Mannan addressed the event as the convocation speaker while Uttara University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M Azizur Rahman, Chairman of its board of trustees Md Bodrul Iqbal and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha, among others, spoke.
