Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Monday said the government will take legal action against the private universities which have failed to fulfill their conditions in running the universities under the rules of the Private University Act-2010.

“Some of the private universities are yet to fulfill their conditions as per the Act and hence they have to face legal action” he told a function in the auditorium of University of Liberal Arts of Bangladesh (ULAB) here, an official release said. The function was held on the occasion of 13th founding anniversary of the ULAB.

Chairman of University Grants Commission(UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan, Lawmaker and member of ULAB Trustee Board Kazi Nabil Ahmed and Vice Chancellor of the University Dr HM Zahirul Haque, among others, addressed the function.

Nahid said a remarkable progress has been brought about in the education sector as the government is working sincerely to expand and improve quality of education in the country.

The government has taken massive programmes to enhance quality of education as it is the prime challenge in the education sector, the minister added.

He called upon all including the private sector to supplement the efforts of improving standard of education to create skilled human resources.

Nahid said the government has set a target of achieving 30 percent enrolment in technical education by 2030 aiming to transform Bangladesh into an economically developed country.

“In 2009, there was only one percent student enrolment in the technical education while the current enrolment is 14 percent,” he added.
