Thirteen Nepalese students of Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College, Sylhet, were among the 71 passengers aboard the US-Bangla Airlines that crushed in Nepal on Monday afternoon.

All of the students were Nepalese and final year MBBS students, the medical college officials said.

They are Sanjay Powdel, Sanjoya Maharajan, Nega Maharajan, Anjali Shreshtha, Purnima Lohani, Shreya Thapa, Mili Maharajan, Sharha Shreshtha, Alzira Baral, Churu Baral, Shamira Bezarkhar, Ashra Shakhia and Princhi Dhani as per the admission records.

The medical college principal, Abed Hossain, told New Age that he was informed that some students of the medical college were among the passengers of the airplane that crashed in Nepal.

‘But, the number of the students is yet to be confirmed,’ the college principal said.

The results of MBBS final examination would be published in about two months and the final year students usually go to homes in their own countries to spend the vacation.

‘Our Nepalese students were also going to their country when the plane crash occurred,’ the principal said.

Officials in the private-run medical college told New Age in the evening that the news of the death of one student and serious injuries of six more were confirmed while the rest were still missing.

At least 50 are feared dead in the plane crash.

The airlines officials in Dhaka said the plane took off at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:51pm with 67 passengers and four crew members for Kathmandu.
