A section of pro-Awami League (AL) senate members of Jahangirnagar University (JU) demanded immediate Vice-Chancellor (VC) panel election on Monday (05 Feb).
The demand came from a human chain, formed by around 25 teachers and newly elected registered graduate representatives, under the banner of Bangabandhur Adarsha o Muktijuddher Chetonay Progotisheel Shikkhok Samaj and Progotisheel Jote, on the Shaheed Minar premises on the campus.
Later, they held a press conference in social science faculty building where JU former VC Prof Shariff Enamul Kabir declared a total of 12 demands including immediate Jahangirnagar University Central Student s’ Union (Jucsu) election and removal of session jam.
They also threatened to wage tougher movement, if their demands were not met.
The tenure of incumbent VC Prof Farzana Islam will expire on March 2.
On January 24, they submitted a memorandum with the demands and signatures of around 39 senators to Prof Farzana.
