Probe body formed over attack on IU professor

The authorities of Islamic University in Kushtia on Thursday formed a three-member probe body to investigate into an alleged attack on Islamic History and Culture department Professor M Emtaz Hossain by deputy registrar of the university Manjar-E-Alam Miru.

IU vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari formed the probe body headed by the chairman of Tourism and Hospitality Management department Professor M Mahbubul Arefin and asked the body to submit their report as early as possible, IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif said.

The other members of the probe body are - Professor M Idris Ali of Dawah and Islamic Studies department and IU madrassah section deputy director M Abdur Rashid Bakul.

The IU vice-chancellor told New Age that they would take legal action against the official after getting the probe report.

On Wednesday, three people, led by Manjar-E-Alam Miru, went to the room of Islamic History and Culture department Professor M Emtaz Hossain at teachers’ quarter and assaulted him, leaving him injured. The professor filed a case against the official with IU Police Station in this regard. The university authorities suspended the deputy registrar on the day following the incident.
