Prof Farzana Islam reappointed as JU VC

Professor Farzana Islam has been reappointed as the vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University for the second time for four years.

The anthropology professor, who was made the country’s first woman VC in the public university on March 2, 2014, was appointed again 15 days before ending her tenure.

Farzana Islam told that president Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of JU, and education minister Nurul Islam Nahid congratulated her over separated phone calls on Thursday morning.

Farzana was born in Bhedarganj upazila of Shariatpur in1957 and did her post-graduation in sociology from Dhaka University in 1980. She joined Chittagong University as a lecturer of the sociology department in 1982.

In 1986, she joined the anthropology department of Jahangirnagar University.
