Professor Md Abul Kashem, head of apparel engineering department of Bangladesh University of Textiles, has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of the university.
President Md Abdul Hamid, as the chancellor of the university, appointed him to the post for the next four-year term.
The education ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Monday, said a press release on Tuesday.
Kashem is the third VC of BUTEX. Professor Kashem was a first batch student of the College of Textile Technology in 1978.
After completing his graduation, Kashem joined the then College of Textile Technology as a lecturer of the technical department. Later, he obtained an MSc degree from the Unite Kingdom in 1988.
Kashem became a professor in 2007 and in the same year, he was made the acting principal of the College of Textile Technology.
He served as chairman of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board from 2009 to 2014, the release said.
