Programmable logic controller workshop held in RUET

Staff Reporter |

A daylong workshop on ‘Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)’ was held in Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) here on Saturday (24 Feb).

RUET’s Department of Mechatronics Engineering hosted the workshop to devise ways and mean on how to overcome the existing challenges in this applicable field.

Vice-chancellor of RUET Prof Rafiqul Alam Beg and its students’ welfare adviser Prof Kamruzzaman Sarker addressed the workshop as chief and special guests respectively with the hosting department chairman Prof Imdadul Haque in the chair.

General Manager of Shah Cement Limited Engineer Lutfor Rahman and Mechatronics Engineer Nasik Akash from USA also spoke.

Prof Imdadul Haque told the workshop that mechatronics is a design process that includes a combination of all engineering field like mechanical, electrical, telecommunications, control and computer. It is a multidisciplinary field of engineering.

Besides, the PLC is used for automation of typically industrial electromechanical processes like control of machinery on factory assembly lines, amusement rides and light fixtures.

In industrial automation, traditionally relay logic or analog logic circuits were used for control and automation, he added.

Prof Rafique Beg hoped that the workshop will contribute a lot towards generating competent workforce in the automation field.

Various issues including role of PLC in automatic industries in both home and abroad, carrier building on this field and acquiring knowledge on application of PLC and theoretical issues were discussed elaborately in the workshop.

More than 210 teachers, students and professionals concerned from eleven universities across the country including RUET took part.
