Quality of all textbooks to be improved gradually: Edn Minister

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said the quality of all textbooks from class six to eight would be improved gradually.

“The corrected textbooks of class nine and ten will be more interesting and easier to read to the students … and quality of the textbooks from class six to eight will be improved gradually,” an official release quoted the minister as he saying while receiving corrected textbooks of class nine and ten at a function at the ministry’s meeting room at the Secretariat here.

Textbook review committee members Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and Mohammad Kaykobad along with other members of the committee handed over the correct copies of physics, chemistry, mathematics, higher mathematics, biology and general science of class nine and ten to Nahid at the function.

“We will distribute the corrected new textbooks among the students in the next year,” Nahid said, adding that the improvement of textbooks’ quality is a visible progress in the education system.

He said, “Quality of education is increasing, not decreasing … but it is a challenge for the whole world to improve the quality of education”.

The minister urged the teachers to be more cordial and sincere while teaching in the classrooms.

Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Md Sohrab Hossain, Additional Secretary and coordinator of textbook review committee Choudhury Mufad Ahmad and National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Chairman Professor Narayan Chandra Saha were present at the function, among others.
