Railway guard suspended for beating CU student

Desk Report |

Bangladesh Railway on Sunday suspended a member of Railway Nirapotta Bahini on charge of beating a Chittagong University student at Bottoli station on Friday.

The accused, Moshiur Rahman Musa, a Sipahi of RNB, allegedly broke the leg of the CU chemistry department student beating him severely as he refused to pay extortion.

Raiyan said that he got on a train at the station on Friday afternoon to go to CU campus along with his two younger brothers.

Three members of RNB demanded money as train fare and locked in an altercation as Raiyan refused to pay.
They tried to snatch his phone and beat him with sticks causing fracture in his leg. The younger brothers were also injured during the attack, Raiyan alleged.

After the incident, hundreds of students demonstrated at the railway station and submitted written complaint demanding exemplary punishment of the RNB personnel.

RNB Chattogram station inspector Aman Ullah said that the authorities agreed to the students’ demand for fair trial and compensation.

“We have terminated main attacker Moshiur Rahman Musa,” he added.
Bangladesh Railway East Zone Nirapotta Bahini chief Iqbal Hossain said BR formed a probe committee on Sunday to investigate into the matter.
