School girls drown in Lakshmipur

A school girl drowned and another went missing in the River Dhakatia in Raipur upazila of the district today.

The victim was identified as Shamima Akter, 12, hailing from Udmara village. She was a student of class four at Dakkhin Udmara Govt Primary School of the upazila. The missing girl is 11-year-old Fatema Akter.

Police said Shamima and Fatema went to the River Dakatia to take bath in the morning. They swam up to the middle of the river and at one stage they drowned.

Later, local people rescued Shamima’s body. Fire fighters are trying to rescue the body of Fatema.
