Hundreds of secondary level school students have taken oath for creating adequate social awareness about severe consequences of drug abuse and addiction to save the young generations from ruining their future.
They took the oath at an anti-drug grand rally and concert jointly organised by Marjina Memorial School and District Narcotics Control Department (DNCD) at Mirbag High School ground under Kursha union in Kawnia upazila here on Thursday.
The event was arranged for the third consecutive time with the theme of ‘No drug in mouth that utters word mother’ for making the young generations more aware about negative impacts of drug abuse and addiction.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Ministry and valiant freedom fighter Tipu Munshi MP attended the programme as the chief guest with Kursha union parishad chairman Alhaj Abul Kashem in the chair.
President of Kawnia upazila unit of Awami League (AL) and former chairman of Kawnia upazila parishad Anwarul Islam formally inaugurated the rally and concert.
Additional Police Super Abdullah Al Faruk, Deputy Director of the DNCD Dilara Rahman and Joint Secretary of district AL Mazed Ali Babul addressed the rally as special guests.
Hundreds of students and guardians, heads of secondary level educational institutions, upazila and union level political leaders, union parishad chairmen and members, religious leaders, civil society members and elite of the area were present.
In her speech, Dilara Rahman narrated the grievous impacts of drug abuse putting maximum emphasis on creating adequate awareness among the young generations as well as common people against drug addiction for building a drug-free society.
Taking part in the open discussion, the speakers put importance on sensitizing the young generations and parents about the catastrophic consequences of generation-killer drug aggression through launching a decisive social movement against drug abuse.
The chief guest discussed various steps taken by the government for preventing drug abuse and called for launching a social movement involving every citizen to save the young generations for their normal growth and flourishing talent.
