A ninth grade school girl was hacked to death on her way to school in Madaripur on Sunday morning.
A youth was detained in connection with the killing which took place in Thakurbari area of Nabagram village under Kalkini upazila in the district.
The deceased is Nitu Mandal, daughter of Nirmal Mandal, of the Nabagram village.
The detainee is Milon Mandal, 20, of the same village.
Upazila’s Dhashar police station sub-inspector Delwar Hossain confirmed the killing to the media.
He said they were sending the body to hospital for autopsy.
