Schoolgirl runs over near Shahbagh

A ninth grader schoolgirl was run over near the High Court in Dhaka city this morning, prompting locals to block the adjacent road for nearly an hour.

sabiha-wbThe victim was identified as Sabiha Akhter Sonali, 14, daughter of Jakir Hossain and a class IX student of Begum Rahima Adarsha balika Uchcha Bidyalaya in the locality.

 

A local bus No. 8 (that runs from Gulistan to Gabtoli) ran her over when she was road crossing near Bangladesh Bar Council around 7:45am, said Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station.

 

She was left spot dead. The dead body has been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.

 

Aggrieved pedestrians and locals blockaded the road, leading from Matsha Bhaban to Shahbagh, for nearly an hour before dispersing away, the OC said.

 

The bus has been seized, but, its driver managed to flee.
