Schoolgirls stage bicycle rally to raise awareness

Hundreds of female school students brought out a bicycle rally in Panchagarh district town today with a view to raise awareness against superstition and gender disparity.

The District Education Officer with the assistance of local administration organised the event styled ‘Doranto Bicycle Rally’ with the theme of ‘Tumi Egiye Gele Egiye Jabe Bangladesh’ sponsored by Pran, RFL Group.

As many as 500 female students of 10 secondary schools of the sub-Himalayan district took part in the rally that began from Panchagarh Sirajul Islam Stadium and paraded the main streets.

With District Education Officer Shankar Kumar Ghosh in the chair, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Panchagarh Mahmudul Alam attended it as chief guest.

General Secretary of Panchagarh District Sports Association Shaykhul Islam, President of District Football Association Shafikul Islam and senior journalist Shahidul Islam Shahid attended as special guests.

Government and non-government officials, teachers and female students of 10 secondary levels schools, guardians, civil society members, socio-cultural and professional activists and local elite were also present.

The speakers said the nation cannot achieve its desired goal without ensuring modern education for the female students.

Later, 20 bicycles were given among 20 female students who won lottery arranged on the occasion.
