Student, her lover kill Sylhet college teacher

Sylhet Madan Mohan College teacher Saifur Rahman was murdered by his student and her lover as he had tried to force her to marry him. 

Both of the couple, Nishat Tasnim Rupa, 20, daughter of Shafiqur Rahman of Khidirpur village under Shah Paran Police thana in the city, and her lover Mozammil Hossain, 24, son of Nazir Ali of Alampur village at Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj, confessed to the crime in court on Monday. 

Earlier, on Sunday morning, police recovered the body of Saifur, lecturer of Islamic History of MMC, from Telirai area at Dakkhin Surma upazila in Sylhet.

 

Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Zedan Al Musa told New Age that Mozammil was arrested from Tilagar and Rupa was arrested from her parents’ house of Khidirpur village in the city on Sunday after the victim’s mother Ranifa Khatun filed a case with Dakkhin Surma police in this regard.

He told that Rupa and Mozammil were taken in for police interrogation. 

He further said that Saifur was a house tutor of Rupa, since he was a masters’ student at Murari Chand College. It was during tutoring that Saifur first tried to develop an affair with her. 

Rupa and Mozammil claimed that they killed Saifur as he raped her more than once and threatened her family members for posting her intimate scenes with Saifur in social media, if they did not agree to marry her to him, the police officer said. 

Zedan said that they introduced the couple before the court of metropolitan magistrate Saifur Rahman in the noon when the court also recorded their confessional statement.
