Students and guardians of Wiles Little Flower School and College (WLFSC) today staged a demonstration in front of the school at Kakrail here against the increase of tuition fees of the students, disrupting vehicular movement for about one hour.
Witnesses said several hundred students and their parents also formed a human chain in this connection.
“The Wiles Little Flower has increased tuition fees between Taka 900 and 1200 for its Bengali, English Version and English Medium students”, an agitating female guardian told. She said the increase would be a burden for many of our families.
The tuition fees for Bengali and English version of Ideal School and College increased by Taka 100 and 200 from the existing ones, while Viqarunnisa Noon School and College enhanced fees by Taka 200.
“Our movement against the discrimination of fixation of new tuition fees would continue until the issue is settled,” said Mohammad Aman, another guardian.
The members of law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot and arranged a discussion between the school authority and guardians in the school auditorium. However, the discussion ended without any fruitful solution, said a source.
Agitating parents also submit an application to the Principal of the intuition to realize their demand by Thursday.
Abul Hossain, acting Principal of Wiles Little flower School and College said,” We need to increase the salary of our teachers and staff from the tuition fees. So we have decided to increase the tuition fees.”
He added: “We increased the tuition fees 46 percent for Bengali medium, 62 percent for English Version and 41 percent for English Medium students.”
When contacted, Director General (DG) of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Prof Fahima Khatun said, “The students and guardians should not go to the street as they could inform us if the school authority does not respond to their demand positively.
