Terming the teachers as the torch-bearers of society, Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman said the teachers inspire the learners to imbibe them with moral values by enlightening their psyche.

The teachers, he said, use to guide the learners to make their marks in the global competition crossing the country’s geographical boundary.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the international conference titled ‘Changing Learning Changing Lives: celebration 10 years of EIA’ at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center here on Thursday (09th November).

Mostafizur Rahman said it is an imperative for all to know English to make the nation’s position firm in the competitive world and to develop effective communication skill across the world.

Adequate opportunities are being created, the minister said, to further develop professional skill of the teachers.

He said the project ‘English in Action’ (EIA) is playing an effective role in helping both teachers and learners acquire efficiency in English language.

The minister urged teachers and students to utilize their experiences earned through the EIA project for strengthening the country’s education system.

Deputy country head of DFID Jim Mc Alpine, Director of International Economic and Social Development John Shotton and Director of Open University UK international Office Methew Faster attended the function as special guests with Project Director Dr. Md. Alamgir Hossain in the chair.
