Dhaka Metropolitan Police has asked the authorities of seven government colleges and two public universities to ensure that their student carrying buses obey the traffic rules. On July 25, DMP issued the letter.
The authorities of the educational institutions received the message positively and said that they would sincerely cooperate with DMP.
DMP’s took the move after some students of Jagannath University assaulted a police sergeant at Bangla Motor in Dhaka on July 17 as he obstructed three student buses of the university which were on the wrong side of road towards Farmgate.
On the next day, the victim, sergeant Kawsar, filed a case with the Ramna Police Station for obstructing government duty and attempt to murder.
DMP informed the matter to the authorities of Jagannath University and asked why its buses used wrong side of the road which was violation of the law, DMP deputy commissioner Masudur Rahman said.
He said that DMP also requested the authorities of Dhaka University and seven government colleges in Dhaka to ensure that their student carrying buses obey the traffic rules.
