A Narsingdi court sentenced a youth to death on Tuesday, for killing a college girl in 2015.

The convict is Al-Amin, 28, son of Miar Uddin of Baznabo Syed Para village in Belabo upazila of the district.

According to the case statement, Al-Amin had been trying to develop an affair with Rinvi Akhter Dipa, 22, a BBA first-year student at Korotia College in Tangail, for the last couple of years but he failed to get any response.

Al-Amin stabbed Dipa with a sharp weapon, when she came to visit her parents during summer vacation, leaving her seriously injured, in the evening of May 7, 2015.

Dipa, daughter of Syed Shamsuzzaman of the village, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital the same night.

The following day, victim’s brother Atikuzzaman Ankur, 42, filed a case with Belabo Police Station accusing Al-amin.

On May 9, villagers caught Al-Amin, beat him up mercilessly and later handed him over to the police.

After examining the records and evidence given by 12 witnesses, Judge Fatema Nazib of the District and Sessions Judge’s Court handed down the verdict.

Victim’s mother Swapna Begum filed a case with Baniachang Police Station on October 9, accusing Abdur Rashid and two others.
