UGC chairman for student union polls

University Grant Commissioner (UGC) Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan stressed to hold the students’ union election on Sunday (4 Feb) in all public universities.

“As the chancellor [President Abdul Hamid] of all universities wants the students’ union elections, we too want the same and an environment for holding peaceful polls should be created on campus,” he said.

The UGC chief was briefing journalists after attending a fresher reception of social science saculty of CU on the campus.

Regarding Institute of Education and Research (IER), Prof Manan said, “The then university administration did not follow proper procedures during inclusion of the institute to CU.” Recently UGC sent a recommendation letter to CU authorities to send back the 16 teachers of the IER who were earlier teachers of CU College.
