1200 DU affiliated college students sued over demonstration

Police filed a case with Shahbagh police station against 1,200 unknown students of seven government colleges which are affiliated under the Dhaka University for allegedly obstructing duties of law enforcers during a demonstration at Shahbagh intersection on Thursday July 20.

Deputy commissioner (Ramna Division) of police Maruf Hossain Sardar confirmed the matter on Friday July 21.

Students of seven government colleges affiliated with Dhaka University took position in front of National Museum near Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Thursday morning, demanding declaration of examination dates and routines.

The colleges are: Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women College, Government Titumir College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardi College and Government Bangla College. Earlier, all the seven colleges were affiliated under the national university.

At one stage, police fired tear gas shells to disperse the students and detained 13 students. The students, however, alleged they were beaten up, leading to the injuries of a number of students.
