5 lakh teachers yet to get June salary

Staff Reporter |

Nearly five lakh teachers and employees are yet to receive their June salaries from the government exchequer.

Teachers blamed the bureaucratic tangles in disbursing funds to the teachers and employees of more than 27,000 post-primary (Class VI) to masters’ level non-government educational institutions. Officials of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education also echoed the teachers’ view.

In Bangladesh, non-government educational institutions are established by the private initiatives and later the government started giving salary in the form of MPO only if  any institutions applies for it.

It was a common scenario for the past 15 years in disbursement of salaries for the month of June as each year the government did not release its funds before July 15, they said.

DSHE director general professor SM Wahiduzzaman told dainishiksha.com, ‘There are many accounting issues that do not allow finance division for timely disbursement of the funds for June which is the last month of a financial year.’

‘And the education ministry is unable to approve the monthly salary bills if the finance ministry does not release the fund which is the main reason behind the delay in paying the salaries to the teachers and employees of MPO listed institutions,’ he added.

DSHE director (College and Admin) Shamsul Huda recalled that the MPO listed teachers and employees had received their salary for the month of June on July 16 in 2016.
