500 more seats added to MBBS courses

The government has decided to increase the number of seats by 500 for admission to MBBS course at state-run medical colleges from the 2018-19 session. 

The health ministry took the decision for the first time within a span of decade in a meeting held at the ministry office in Dhaka today, said in a statement.

At present, there are 31 public medical colleges in the country which have a total of 3,318 seats for admission to MBBS course, the statement said.

The government has taken the decision to ensure quality medical care for the people of the Upazila and unions level across the country, considering the pressure of increasing population.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim presided over the meeting where state minister Jahid Malek and its secretary G M Saleh Uddin, among others, were present.
