862 school students get prize for book reading in Rajshahi

862 school students get prize for book reading in RajshahiA total of 862 students from 34 schools in Rajshahi city received prizes for laudable performance in book reading here yesterday (Friday).

They get the prizes in a colourful prize distribution festival held at Rajshahi Education Board Model School and College premises. President of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed opened the festival before a large number of book-loving people including students.

More than 2,500 students took part in the year-round book reading programme for flourishing their latent talents. Bishwa Sahitya Kendra organized the programme in collaboration with GrameenPhone to give away prizes among 862 students who show their good performance in the evaluation phase.

Famous writer of the country Prof Hassan Azizul Haque, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Munir Hossain, retired Professor Alok Moitra, Principal of Rajshahi Education Board Model School and College Prof Dr Mokbul Hossain and Regional Head of GrameenPhone Imtiaz Ahmed spoke on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed says book always makes people beautiful, brighten and prosperous. Only the people enriched with prosperous heart can build bright Bangladesh.

He expected that the students and young generation will develop Bangladesh through making themselves enriched with nation-building knowledge.

Prof Hassan Azizul Haque said reading habit enlightens people, and easy and creative books are very essential for wide spreading reading habit. He underscored the need for reaching books at the doorsteps of the readers to make it happened.

He hoped the festival will contribute a lot to attain the desired goal and sought all-out cooperation from all quarters to make it a total success.
