Bangladesh should focus on ICT based service sector

Says South Korean envoy |

Bangladesh is on the right track of its development drive but needs to grow its economy further and maintain social stability to achieve an advanced society, said South Korean Ambassador in Dhaka AHN Seong-doo.

In his first interview with the media after his arrival, the diplomat, who earlier served as the ambassador to Afghanistan and consul-general to Dubai, said Bangladesh should invest more in youths and ensure more availability of wealth and work opportunities.

Besides, it should focus on service sector through information and communications technology and Korea, one of the leading countries in this sector, is eager to cooperate with Bangladesh in this regard, he added.

Bangladesh should also improve infrastructure facilities and ease “administrative rules” for all foreign investors, not just for Korean investors.

On trade gap between the two countries, Seong-doo said Bangladesh’s products are not very diverse, so it needs to invite more Korean companies in new areas and thereby can re-export those products to Korea and other countries.

About current security threats in Bangladesh, the diplomat said it is common all over the world.

On recent municipal polls, the Korean envoy said the elections were “very successful and peaceful” except for some allegations of irregularities.
