BB allows students to release fees for health coverage abroad

Staff Reporter |

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has relaxed its regulation allowing students to release foreign exchange on account of health coverage or medical insurance fees for admission and study abroad.

“It is observed that students intending to study abroad are in some cases required to make payment on account of health coverage or health insurance or medical insurance fee as overseas students for permissible courses as a pre-requisite of visa or admission,” said a BB circular on Thursday.

The central bank has decided that Authorized Dealers (ADs) may also release foreign exchange on account of health coverage or health insurance or medical insurance fees provided that such fees are mandatory for visa or admission in permissible courses supported by documentary evidence from the concerned educational institution, the circular added.

The BB circular also said other instructions regarding release of foreign exchange for study abroad will remain unchanged.
