Brac distributes educational tools among 100 poor students

Some 100 primary students coming from poor and extreme poor families in the city received education equipment like schoolbag, Tiffin-box, notebook, pen and pencil free of cost.

Brac distributed the tools in association with its ‘Urban Development Programme’ at a function in the conference hall of Rajshahi City Corporation here on Wednesday.

The educational appliances will help the students conducting their regular schooling and institutional learning.

Brac Regional Coordinator Farzana Parveen told the function that around 53,000 people of 12,500 households living in different slum areas in the city are getting time-fitting tools of improving their living and livelihood condition for reducing multi- dimensional poverty and deprivation under the urban development programme.

An empowering situation is being created so that the targeted people are able to get access to adequate, safe and affordable housing, basic and inclusive services and upgrades slums.

Around 17,500 youths, including around 13,000 females of 15-29 age group, will get empowerment and entrepreneurship privileges through need- based promotional activities.

Of them, 3,000 youths will be imparted either three or six-month need- based vocational and technical training and job placement for improving their living and livelihood condition.

Farzana Parveen said the programme intends to promote socio-economic empowerment of the beneficiary people.

City Mayor Musaddique Hossain Bulbul addressed the meeting as chief guest with Chief Executive Officer Shah Mumin in the chair. Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque and Executive Engineer Nur Islam Tusser also spoke.
