BSMMU to confer honorary PhD degrees upon 7 Professors

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) will confer honorary PhD degrees on seven Professors on the occasion of its 3rd convocation.

BSMMU Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan today disclosed the information at a press briefing at Shaheed Milton Hall of the University in city’s Shahbag area.

The awards recipients are – Professor Motiur Rahman, Professor Mahmud Hasan, Professor MQK Talukder, Professor Shamsuddin Ahmed, Professor AKM Nurul Anwar, Professor M Imdadul Huq and Professor Afzalun Nesa.

The 3rd convocation of BSMMU would be held on February 19 in where some 1,202 doctors are expected to be present to receive certificates. A total of six doctors from six different departments would receive gold medals, he said.

Chancellor of the BSMMU and President M Abdul Hamid is scheduled to attend the event as the chief guest, Dr Khan added.

BSMMU authority has formed 16 sub-committees comprising of 57 members to hold the convocation smoothly.

Students who passed MD/MS/MPhil/BSc in nursing/Diploma will receive certificates at the convocation.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Chairman of University Grants Commission Professor Abdul Mannan are expected to attend the event.

There has been running 95 post graduate and MSC nursing courses in the university.

The hospital already introduced pediatric neurology, pediatric cardiology, palliative care medicine, respiratory medicine, Pedodontics department and Geriatric medicine unit.

BSMMU would also introduce more six departments – Surgical oncology, Colorectal Surgery, Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, gynaecological oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility and fetomaternal medicine – to provide more services to patients.
